Deepika Padukone inspired Makeup Look from "Piku"

Hi Everyone,

Today I'm here to share my version of the 'Deepika Padukone inspired' makeup look from her movie 'Piku'. I haven't watched the movie yet, but I really liked her simple yet striking look. I have tried to re-create a similar look because this look is not only simple & easy to create, but it also enhances your eyes and can be easily sported by someone who wears glasses(like ahem...yours truly!). Read on to see how I recreated this look -

1. Face - I used the Lakme Absolute Mousse in shade 'Golden Ivory' to create a natural & clean base. To conceal under-eye circles, I used the Derma Color Camouflage creme. To mattify and set the base, I used the Blue Heaven Artisto Compact all over the face. To replicate a natural blush, I used 'Peach Affair' blush from the Lakme 9 to 5 range.

2. Eyes - To avoid creasing & to create a base for the eye shadow, I applied some of my concealer to the eyelids. Once this was done, I dusted 'Creamy Cinnamon' blush by Maybelline Cheeky Glow on the eyelids (this is actually a blush, but a very versatile colour that I sometimes use as an eye shadow as well...I love products that can multi-task for me!). I lined the upper & lower lash lines with the Lotus Color Kick Kajal (Read review HERE). A simple VOV black eye shadow was used to smudge these lines out; this way the kajal doesn't run/smudge when your skin gets oily or sweaty. Smudging also increases the intensity of the eye look. For thicker looking eye brows like Deepika, I simply used the same kajal to fill out the sparse areas in my brows.

3. Lips - I used the Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in 'Bronze Orange' on the lips. Try to stick to a neutral colour, so that the whole focus in on your eyes.

I didn't own a black bindi, so I used my kajal to make one hehehe...and voila! your Piku-inspired makeup look is ready! Hope you enjoyed this look! Do try and recreate this sometime & enjoy the compliments that follow! Mine came from the Husband, who saw this and went, "Hey, you look so nice...very Bengali!!" Given that he had no idea I was creating a Piku-inspired look, that's a compliment now, isn't it?! **wink wink**

P.S. - You don't have to use the products I've used. Try & experiment with different products or better still, use the ones you have at hand :-)

Until the next post, Ciao!!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipsticks - Review

Hi Everyone!

Today I'm here to review two of my most loved lipsticks - the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipsticks in 'Heart Breaker' & 'Cutting Edge'.

My story with them begins when I was on the lookout for a particular lipstick from one of our reputed Indian brands. I walked into Shoppers Stop, with my mind set on this one shade, that would cost me around Rs.500/-. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Rimmel London counter in the mall and I turned towards it to merely check out their shades (read - swatch leisurely!!). I had already heard very good things about the Kate Moss range and I wanted to see if they had anything else that I liked. To cut an already long story short, I ended up buying these 2 beautiful lipsticks for the same price I'd have to pay for that one lipstick I was actually looking for...!! Ahh, such an adventure Shopping is...you never know what you'll find!! Cheers, to more such adventures!!

Rimmel London lipsticks are known for being exceptional in quality along with being totally budget friendly. I always wanted to try them out, so I was very happy to pick these up. Sticking to my usual picks, I pulled out a lovely pink. I also went out of my comfort zone and bought a 'Winter-appropriate' shade as well. Read on to know more about these beauties-

HEART BREAKER 016:

Price: 250/- for 4g (My pocket was dancing to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" lol)
Shade: Heart Breaker is a Mauvey-Pink shade which is right up my alley. I knew I had to have it, when I laid eyes on it. It can look bright & vibrant on sunny days & a lovely muted mauve on 'not so sunny' ones...cool init? ;-)
Pigmentation & Texture: The lipstick is quite pigmented and one swipe will be enough to cover your natural lip colour. This doesn't need to be layered on to get true colour. The texture is creamy and absolutely easy to apply. It glides on like a dream. It moisturizes the lips but not to an extent that your dry lips wont show. If you do have dry, flaky lips, please moisturize and exfoliate before application. Having said that its creamy, the texture dries to a satin matte finish. The lipstick does not bleed and you won't need a lipliner before wearing this one.
Wear-time: This lipstick lasts on me for a good 5-6hrs. Yes, it does fade a bit after that. The shade also stains your lips very well, so you don't need an immediate touch up after its faded a bit. PS: If you're going to try out this range, then I highly recommend picking up this shade; its beautiful and would suit almost all skin tones :-)

CUTTING EDGE 120

Price: 250/- for 4g (My pocket was singing "Denewala jab bhi deta, deta chappar phaad ke" lol)
Shade: Cutting Edge is a rich, deep Berry shade. It's nothing like I have ever owned before. Since I bought it towards the end of winter, it hasn't received the love it deserves, as you can see from the bullet. That, is going to change this year! ;-)
Pigmentation & Texture: The lipstick is similar to the Heart Breaker actually..In terms of formula, quite pigmented & one swipe will get you the true colour. The texture is creamy & dries to a satin matte finish. What I sometimes do to make it more matte, is that I dust a little baby powder on it after a few mins of application & then re-apply. It stays on longer than 5-6hrs that way, which is normally the wear-time I find with this range.
Wear-time: 5-6hrs but fades slightly after meals and drinks. This shade too has a good staining effect on your lips, like its pinky, mauvey counterpart!

Hand swatches:

Top: Heart Breaker 016 & Bottom: Cutting Edge 120
(Freshly applied)

Top: Heart Breaker 016 & Bottom: Cutting Edge 120
(After 10 mins of application)

Lip Swatches:

Heart Breaker 016

Cutting Edge 120

Sorry about looking like I have 2 different skin tones in these pics, the sun was playing games throughout that day!! :-P

Hope this review was helpful in case you were looking to try out the Rimmel London range of lipsticks. I haven't tried out the Kate Moss range in the red & black casing but I might try them out once I'm done with these lovelies..!! How about you? Do you own any lippies from the RL range? Tell me about them in the comments below...

Until the next post, Ciao!!!

May 2015 Fab Bag - Review

Hey Everyone!

I'm back after a short vacay in Mangalore :-) I had so much fun there!! It's nice to be back home now & I was so happy to come home to this lil bundle of surprise. I just had to share what I received for the month of May 2015, with you.

The theme for the May Fabbag was "Sun, Sand & Sexy" so it meant some great beach-y, summer essentials would definitely come my way. Being in Bengaluru, I cant have any 'Beach Days' but one can surely wish to get away to some place that has them, eh? ;-)

Here goes -

1. Vana Vidhi Rice Scrub - Oriental Rice Paddy:

The 70 gms of product comes packaged in a plastic tub with a coppery aluminium cap. It has a strong herbal, Ayurvedic scent to it. It contains goodness of Jojoba oil, Lavender oil, Rosemary oil, Carrot seed oil and other lovely ingredients, blended with brown rice to make a natural scrub.

Vana Vidhi Rice Scrub

I really liked this Rice Scrub over my normal Walnut scrub since this is less damaging to the skin; rice makes for a smoother scrub than most walnut & apricot kernel scrubs available in the market. Also, after the rice grains have gently exfoliated the skin, the oils in the product leave the skin feeling well-moisturized (unlike my regular one, which needs to be followed up quickly with a moisturizer!!) I would still suggest a moisturizer after any kind of exfoliation, but this rice scrub can be followed up with a light-weight one :-)  Another plus for this product is that its free of Sulphates & Parabens!!

2. SAND for Soapaholics - After Glow Face Cleanser:

SAND for Soapaholics - After Glow Cleanser

With all-natural main ingredients like Masoor, Almonds, Aloe Vera, Honey, etc..this one's exclusively for the face. I received this product in a small plastic, ochre-yellow tub (sample size). I took a pea-sized amount on my palm and added a few drops of water to make a paste and then applied it to my face. With mainly an almond scent, this product is really refreshing and leaves your skin feeling soft & supple.

I haven't tried removing my makeup with it, in spite of the 'cleanser' claim :-) I have only used it at night before going to bed for a squeaky-clean face.

3. Black Scarf by Bling:

Scarf

Little disappointed with this one, as I could have got the same (or a better) scarf for Rs.100/- at Colaba Causeway (Mumbai) or MG Road (Bengaluru) hehehe...Its a basic black scarf that "apparently" retails for Rs.500/- (??!!) Lol in case, the people curing this bag haven't noticed - We weren't born yesterday!! :-P

4. Be a Bombshell Eye Shadow Quad in the shade 'Bora Bora':

I forgave the "expensive" scarf debacle, all thanks to this beauty right here!! When I saw reviews & unboxing videos of the May Fabbag on different social media channels, I had hoped to receive this particular product rather the Makeup Stick. Dont get me wrong, the Makeup stick is great too; the eye shadows were just my preference.

The well-loved 'Bora Bora' quad :-)

The quad contains 4 shades (duh, Neha! Obviously!) - Scarlet, Bora Bora, Risky Business & Rock Bottom. I don't exactly know which one's which but I'm absolutely in awe of the pigmentation!! These shades are insanely pigmented and you need very little product to create a bold, colourful look.

Here's a simple look I created wit the quad - I put the 'goldenish' shade all over my eyelid, used the 'taupey-brown' on the outer-V of the eyelid & then blended both with the 'coppery orange' (LOL yes, those are the names I'm gonna roll with!) I also blended my kajal on the lower lash line, with the vibrant Blue shade in the quad, which ended up becoming a highlight of the whole eye-look. And no, I wasn't trying to recreate the 'Ash at Cannes' look with the blue lower lash line...it just happened to be there & I used it...hahaha!

Really liked this month's products, I must say. I also really liked the nautical striped, water-proof bag that the Team has sent this time :-) Maybe because I love the sea, maybe because my Dad was in the Navy, I don't know...but I liked how simple, casual yet sporty it looks!

Have you subscribed to the Fab Bag? What did you get in your bag this month? Let me know if the comments section below...cant wait to hear from you! Hope this sneak peek / mini review helped you in some way :-)

Until the next time... Ciao!

Disclaimer: I have subscribed to Fab Bag on my own. These reviews are my personal opinions and haven't been sponsored. I have always maintained that apart from the 'delay in delivery', I have not had any issues with the Fab Bag Team. Their products are usually nice and I have never had a bad experience with them till date..Touchwood! ;-)
